St. Louis FBI officials honor Kirkwood officer with memorial plaque

Sgt. William Biggs Jr.

FBI officials in St. Louis this morning dedicated a memorial plaque in honor of Kirkwood police officer Sgt. William Biggs Jr., who was killed during the Feb. 7, 2008 shootings at Kirkwood City Hall.  Biggs was honored because he was a graduate of the FBI’s National Academy. Several members of local law enforcement agencies are selected each year to attend the training sessions in Quantico, Va.  A memorial plaque will be hung next to the FBI Service Martyrs memorial wall in a lobby of the FBI offices in St. Louis.  The plaque is a first nationwide.

Plaque recalls Berlin Supervisor Hector

The two recently engraved plaques that honor people who were pivotal to the township.

Berlin Township community members have come together to honor the life and work of Roger W. Hector Sr., who served as a township supervisor for over 19 years until his passing in 2007. A plaque emblazoned with his name and photograph will remain on permanent display inside the Beach Lake Community Center. They also honored other luminaries with another plaque that had the following etched on it: Thomas J. Hector, a former township supervisor and father of Roger, who served nearly 40 years; Carol Henry Dunn, a township historian; and George L. Hocker, a Wayne Highlands School District board member. Hocker was instrumental at keeping the Community Center open.

Jazz Plaque to be Awarded to Buckingham Palace

Jazz Plaques

It was in 1919, under the reign of King George, when Buckingham Palace was first exposed to British jazz. Many musicians played for him at the palace, including Sidney Bechet and Louis Armstrong, but it was his son, Edward VIII, who was an even bigger fan. Ever since then, those of the palace have continued to display their love for jazz.
